Do you want to take your business before millions of people? Yes? Then it would help if you focused on Search Engine Optimization or SEO.

Search Engine Optimization is an act of ranking websites or web pages higher on the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). Got it? You can rank your web pages at the top of the SERP if you are pretty decent with SEO.

Before that, you should know how the search engine works.

However, a search engine, Google, for example, functions 3 core tasks. These are:

  • Crawling
  • Indexing
  • Ranking

The web pages you see after searching anything on the search engines are more likely to come to you through the above process. You may not think about the process before.

So, let’s dig a bit deeper into this discussion.

What Is Google Crawling?

Google has some superficial robots, or you can call them spiders or bots. But what role do these spiders play?

The specialized spiders of Google travel around the world on the internet. Their primary intention is to discover new content. Here, content can be any type of content; a blog post, video, infographic, you name it.

In this process, the spiders search for fresh content that just appears in the internet world. This Is why you need to ensure every webpage on your website is discovered by Google.

In a nutshell, the process of Google’s spiders finding or discovering web pages is called Google crawling. As simple as that.

What next? Indexing?

What Is Google Indexing?

The next step after crawling is indexing. Here, Google categorizes the web pages it finds after crawling.  To simply describe, in the process of indexing, Google stores the web pages it finds.

However, indexing can also be regarded as the preparation for Google. For what? Showing results based on the searchers’ queries.

What Is Google Ranking?

The final step. Here, Google showcases the relevant web pages to searchers based on their queries.

For example, let’s assume you search ‘best online marketing service provider’. Once you click the search button after typing this keyword, Google looks for the relevant queries that match your search intent.

Never forget that Google has stored the possible web pages in indexing. Once Google is pretty much sure about the web pages you like to get, it showcases the web pages in relevant order.

This procedure only takes milliseconds!

However, regarding showcasing relevant web pages before you, Google considers the fact below.

  • The relevancy of the web pages.
  • How optimized the web pages are.
  • Web page loading speed.
  • Authentication of the content.
  • Mobile friendliness.
  • Domain authority.
  • Backlinks, etc.

There are almost 200 ranking factors on Google. However, all the ranking factors are under the process of crawling. indexing and ranking.

As a search engine optimization, you should have a precise idea of Google’s algorithm. Well, you don’t need to be experts on them, but never avoid the most common of them. Title, heading, meta description, and many more.
