You know how important it is for a digital marketer to reach their targeted audience with the appropriate medium. You need to determine the social media-using behavior of your targeted audience. This is important because the more you clarify when it comes to knowing the device used by your audience while browsing social media, the better you can make a strategy in order to promote business.

We know what you’re wondering about! Well, it is very common to think that people who use social media with the help of the desktop are less than those who use social media with the help of mobile devices out there. And we don’t have any valid reason to deny the fact!

If you consider the conversion rate that takes place among the users of mobile phones and desktops while using social media, the desktop wins the battle. Moreover, it has been figured out that people like to explore stuff with their mobiles, but when it comes to making purchases, they do use a desktop.

Does this debate sound good? Then, stick with us as we plan to share some statistics that can let you know people’s approach while using social media on their mobile and desktop.

Mobile vs Desktop Social Media Usage; Who Wins the Battle?

Let’s face it and learn some statistics first. According to a recent survey, among social media users, 83% of them use their mobiles in order to browse different social media websites out there. In the case of the desktop, the number falls down to 13%, which is a huge difference as you can see.

And one of the key reasons behind this margin is the portability and ease of access. You don’t even try to carry your desktop with you while walking abroad or waiting for the metro. And here is where mobile usage while using social media climbs up. In addition, it is also a case of ease and comfort.

Then again, if you know the traffic generated by mobile phones and desktops, you can differentiate stuff more precisely. If we go back to the year 2023, traffic generated by mobile was around 60%. On the other hand, the rate was around 40% for the desktop. Still not a huge difference!

And here is where you need to focus on. If you underestimate the desktop social media users, it will be a wrong move. Rather, considering conversion, the average conversion rate in the case of the desktop was 3.7%. On the other hand, it was just 2.2 in the case of mobile phone users.

Now what does this mean? This means, there is still something left to make a strategy and optimize social media content for desktop users. We hope we are able to get things covered here!

But, with the passage of time, desktop social media users won’t be in a comparable position with mobiles. Because people will love to use different social media websites on their smartphones compared to the huge desktop, which needs space to settle down.

According to a survey, adults in the United States spend almost 5.5 hours daily on their mobile phones. And the number is supposed to climb up a lot as the day progresses.

Why Is Mobile Optimization Important?

Let’s forget people’s tendencies when using social media on different devices. But make sure one thing, you need to focus on creating content that are  mobile optimized.

This is because a majority of your targeted audience consumes your content using their mobiles. Yes, there can be a few who like to sit in front of their computers and browse social media on the big screens.

And you are supposed to know that you need to go through different strategies when it comes to optimizing your social media content for both mobile and desktop users. Content that can be easily displayed on mobile screens may not be appropriate for the computer’s screen.

So, what does it mean? It is essential to make sure that you create the content for your social media presence based on what type of device your targeted audience uses in order to browse the available social media websites out there.

And for this, you need to have a pretty decent idea regarding the taste and choices of your targeted audience. So, understanding the behavior of your targeted audience is very key.

Why Is Desktop Optimization Important?

Even if you have a tiny amount of targeted audience who use desktops in order to use social media, you should also care for them. At the end of the day, you may never want to lose your targeted audience.

And so, similar to optimizing websites or content for people who use mobile, you should also optimize your content for desktop users as well. And as you can see, the conversion rate in the case of the users who use desktops in order to browse social media websites is more than the users who use mobiles in order to perform the same task.

So, in this particular case, you need to be pretty much strategic and have to make sure you prioritize creating content for both mobile phone and desktop users. In this particular case, you can ask yourself a simple question and that is, whether the content you publish on your business’s social media presence is suitable for both mobile and desktop users.

Final Words

Now you have a good idea regarding the difference between mobile social media users and desktop social media users.  However, it will be better if you can prioritize both two devices to optimize your social media content for your target audience.

But it will be beneficial for you if you can know exactly the number of you target for using social media on what particular device.  you must have a very decent knowledge of the demography and social media browsing behavior of your target audience. It might take some time for you but the outcome that you can get from the work will be pretty decent.
